My story

I thought it would be nice for you to know a little about me before deciding to take me on as your coach.

I live in a little seaside town in Kent. I live right opposite the sea which is beautiful and calming whilst also being wild and unpredictable at times, a little like us all!

I moved here from London where I lived for 18 years but I originally hale from just outside Glasgow. I worked in hospitality for 25 years managing bars, pubs, clubs, and live music venues… you name it, I ran it! I was co-owner/operator of a portfolio of bars for the last 7 years of my hospitality career. I never set out to work in this field, especially for this long, it just kind of happened, life just kind of happened. Sound familiar?

I suppose I drifted through my 20’s and 30’s, not really paying attention. I had never properly known what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’d had vague ideas; teaching, journalism, events but somehow, none of these dreams materialised. I had always suffered from anxiety (or being “highly strung” as I used to call it before I knew what it actually was) and I think that played a part in my getting complacent. I allowed myself to get sucked into a career I had never planned (and never really enjoyed!) which, as time went on, became increasingly difficult to get out of.

All that time though, one thing had always been certain, I had always just known that I’d have a family one day, children. That was my purpose, that was what I was meant to do.

Life had different plans.

The reality

September 2015 was my watershed moment. At the age of 41, my relationship ended and took with it my career, as I owned my business with him. I found myself alone, with no home, no partner, no career, and no family. My purpose had disappeared almost overnight. I was suffering badly from anxiety and panic attacks. I had no direction or purpose other than getting up every day and putting one foot in front of the other. I felt utterly lost, alone and terrified. I felt like a failure.

I was living like a victim; life was happening to me, not for me and I felt like I had no control over it.

That’s when I decided things had to change, I had to change.

I started to work with a therapist and coach. I cannot begin to put into words how grateful I am for this decision as it completely changed my life! Working with her, I had my lightbulb moment; I could change my mindset!

I wasn’t a prisoner to my limiting beliefs, I could actually change how my brain directed me. To say this blew my mind would be an understatement. I was able to be in control of my life for probably the first time ever. I gained clarity, and confidence and began to realise my worth & potential.

My purpose as a Life Coach

I am now passionate about sharing my knowledge, training, and experience with others who may be feeling as lost and scared as I once felt. This is my purpose. I know this now.

What My Clients Say

“I was at a junction in my life having recently turned 50 and decided I needed to make some significant changes. I’d had the “big job” for years but was feeling burnt out and lacking in purpose and direction. Julie helped me unravel some pretty complex issues to provide more focus and clarity.

I have decided to retrain and pursue a new career, based on a real passion. Julie gave me the confidence and clarity to explore this and make the final jump. I would heartily recommend Julie. Her approach to coaching is informal, insightful and supportive and I really enjoyed our time working together.”
